Judy Niemeyer's Poinsettia Table Runner with Michael Davison - Fri & Sat, Oct 25-26



Poinsettia is a fun Judy Niemeyer Quiltworx pattern that challenges the beginner foundation paper piecer with s-curves and spikes to create this beautiful circular table topper or wall hanging.

You will be reminded of all the basics while working towards becoming an advanced beginner/intermediate Quiltworx foundation paper piecer (if you are not already there!)

Whether you want to make this in traditional holiday fabrics or put your own spin on it, this pattern looks fantastic in a variety of colors and styles. Fabric Fanatics has put together some different colorways in beautiful batiks - visit soon and check them out!

Materials Included: Pattern and all papers
Requirements: Fabric kits will be available for purchase at Fabric Fanatics or choose your own fabrics
Fabric Requirements:
- Background - 3/8yd (dark)
- Large inside petals - 2 different fabrics - 5/8yd each fabric (light & med light)
- Small outside petals - 1/4 yd (med)
- Center circle & veins - 3.8yd (dark)
- Spikes in petals (outer and half inner) - 1/2yd (med dark)
- Spikes in inner petals (other half) - 1/4 yd (med)
- Backing - 1 1/4 yd (for finishing after class)
- Binding - 1/2 yd (for finishing after class)

Supplies to bring (items with * are carried in the shop)

For Preparing Pattern and Fabrics
- Rotary cutter (60mm recommended, 45mm & 28mm also nice to have)
- Repositional or Restickable Glue Stick
- Cutting Mat - 24"x 36" (a large one is highly recommended when cutting out newsprint) - the shop has several this size to share
- *Straight Rulers - 24" for cutting out patterns, 18" & 12" are also used often - the shop carries all three sizes
- Curved rulers are nice to have but not required
- Jumbo Smooth Metal Paper Clips - lots of them
- Standard size stapler is optional for stacking multiple layers of newsprint to cut together
- Ziploc Bags - gallon size - bring several
- Binder clips - optional but helpful to clip larger stacks of fabric
- 3-ring Binder - optional (if you like to put your pattern pages into protective sleeves)
- Highlighter - optional but nice for marking important information in your pattern instructions
- Pen or pencil for making notes

For Paper Piecing
- *Microtex Sharp Needle 70/10 or 80/12
- *50wt or 60wt thread>br> - *Basic Sewing Supplies (pins, scissors, seam ripper, etc)
- Sharpie (used to mark your foundation papers)
- Rotary Cutter - 45mm
- Cutting Mat - 12"x18" to have next to your work station
- Repositional or Restickable Glue Stick
- *Fabric Glue Pen with Refill Cartridges (Sewline or other narrow point)
- Plastic Fold Templates made from Heavy Duty Template Plastic 12" (6" & 18")
- *Add a Quarter Rulers - 12" at least (6" & 18" nice to have)
- *Acorn Easy Press Pen (starch pen) with Easy Press Fabric Treatment (starch)
- Small Iron and Pressing Surface near your sewing machine

Nice to Have
- *Small Curved Embroidery Scissors
- Purple Thang or Stiletto
- Scotch Tape or Nexcare Clear Flexible Tape
- Light Table
- Clorox Wipes

Instructor Bio: MICHAEL DAVISON is a seasoned quilting professional and respected figure in the quilting community. With a passion for textiles and a talent for design, his quilts are known for dynamic use of color and pattern.

As a Quiltworx Certified Instructor, Michael specializes in foundation paper piecing techniques and enjoys experimenting with unique fabric combinations to put his own spin on Judy Niemeyer’s patterns. Michael is also a longarm quilter who quilts for himself and clients. He specializes in hand-guided custom work using his own line of machine quilting rulers alongside free motion fills and digitized designs.

Michael teaches locally in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area as well as nationally, on cruise ships, and online.
