Skill Level: | Beginner |
Skill Details: | Basic sewing knowledge required. You need to be able to sew a straight stitch with a 1/4" seam allowance on your machine |
Requirements: | The supply list will be emailed prior to the class Pattern: Must buy "Adding Layers" by Kathy Doughty of Material Obsessions Fabric: We will be cutting the blades using my AccuQuilt cutter so fabric measurements are based upon using the custom made die that I have. - If you would like to have all 30 Dresdens different, you will need two 9.5" x WOF pieces per Dresden and there are 30 in the quilt so 60 different fabrics. - If you would like to have one consistent fabric, you will need thirty (30) 9.5" x WOF pieces and 8 yards of a single fabric cut into 9.5" x WOF. - For this class, it is recommended that you AVOID DIRECTIONAL FABRIC. If you wish to use directional fabric, you most likely will need to hand cut some pieces using the ruler listed below. You will have some left over out of each 9.5" x WOF strip. - We will be cutting the circles in class as well using my machine. I will demonstrate several methods to make circles. I have used 3" and 4" circles. You can make that determination once you get a couple of blocks sewn. Bring enough fabric for them - approximately 1/2 yard. - If you wish to conserve fabrics, you may also cut the wedges by hand with the ruler listed below PRIOR to class. Refer to the fabric requirements in the book for hand cutting. Cut enough for at least 10 blocks prior to class. Notions: - Thread - Thread to applique your circles - probably will not get to appliqueing circles in class. - 18 degree Wedge Ruler (at least 9" tall) - recommended if you need to cut when you don't have access to my die - You will square the blocks to 13.5" so you will need a square ruler larger than that for squaring. I will also have custom made rulers available for purchase during class that have markings on them and are designed just for cutting this pattern. The ruler is $20.64. This ruler makes cutting a breeze. - Scissors - Starch - Pins - Ironing pad and iron for your sewing station. Machine & Accessories: - Sewing machine - cleaned, oiled, and sewing properly - Needles for your machine - 1/4" foot, wide stitch plate, wide foot that will accompany blanket stitch. Preparation: Starch well and cut your fabrics into 9.5" x WOF >>OR<< have wedges cut for approximately 10 blocks. |

Instructor Bio: | Instructor - Cathy Miller ***** FB Page - BECAUSE SHE SAID SEW ***** 214.796.0447 Cathy has been teaching since February 2016. Her love of quilting began in 2014. She had recently retired and was driven by the desire to make her daughter a quilt for college graduation and the fear of not having anything to do after retirement. It snowballed from there. She bought her first machine in 2002 but was never able to use it due to work. After her kids were grown, she bought an updated machine in 2014 and took every class available to her. She is also an avid YouTube-er and reader and loves learning new things and has now made well over 150 quilts. She has since converted two rooms in her home to sewing rooms, has a stash that will rival any quilt store, strives to sew every day and loves everything about quilting. She thoroughly enjoys teaching and says she always learns something from her students. |
